Clear Cuts ("we," "us," or "our") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information when you use the Clear Cuts browser extension ("the Extension").
We operate on a simple principle: Your data belongs to you. The Extension is designed to function locally on your device, and we do not collect, store, or sell your personal identification information.
2. Information We Collect
A. Personal Information & Authentication
While you do not need an account with us to use the basic features of the Extension, certain advanced features require connecting the Extension to your Google Account. If you choose to authenticate:
- Google Account Information: We request access to your Google account email address solely to facilitate the login process and provide account selection hints.
- OAuth Tokens: We securely store authentication tokens locally on your device to maintain your connection to Google APIs.
- Payment Information: If you purchase a license, you will provide personal information to our payment processor (Email, Billing Name, Payment details). We do not directly collect, process, or store your credit card information.
B. Your Spreadsheets and What You Type
The extension runs right in your browser while you're working in Google Sheets. It needs to see keyboard shortcuts and, for some features, read parts of your spreadsheets.
- What you type: Everything stays in your browser. We never see, log, or send the actual keys you press or anything you type into cells.
- Your spreadsheet content: Some features need to read parts of your sheets. When that happens, the data is only handled temporarily in your browser and is never sent to us or stored anywhere else.
C. Usage Insights
To help us improve the extension, we collect some basic anonymous information about how people use it. This includes things like which shortcut commands get used the most and whether users have activated a paid license. It helps us understand what actually matters to people and fix the things that don't work well.
We keep this very limited. We never collect or store any of your spreadsheet content, the keys you press, or anything else that could identify you personally.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect solely to provide and improve the Extension's functionality:
- To sync your custom shortcut preferences between sessions and devices (via Chrome Sync, if enabled).
- To understand which features people use most so we can improve the extension.
- To authenticate your Google account when you choose to use advanced features that need access to your spreadsheets.
4. Third-Party Services and Data Sharing
We do not share, sell, rent, or trade your information with any third parties.
- Google APIs: The Extension communicates directly with Google Sheets APIs to enable specific features. Our use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
- Usage data: We send some anonymous information about how the extension is used (such as popular shortcut commands and whether a paid license has been activated) to a third-party service. This helps us improve the product. We never send your spreadsheet content, keystrokes, or any information that could identify you.
5. Data Security
- Local Data & Tokens: Your custom settings and Google OAuth tokens are secured locally by your browser and your operating system's profiles.
- API Communications: All requests made to Google's APIs to fetch your spreadsheet data are transmitted over secure protocols.
6. Data Retention and Deletion
A. Google User Data
- OAuth Tokens: Google authentication tokens are stored locally on your device. They are kept only while you're signed in and are automatically removed when you sign out or revoke access. You can revoke the Extension's access at any time from your Google Account Permissions page.
- Spreadsheet content: Any spreadsheet data the extension needs to read stays only in your browser while you're using that feature. It disappears as soon as you close the tab or move away. We never save it or send it anywhere.
- Request to Delete: To request deletion of any Google user data associated with your account, contact us at support@clear-cuts.xyz. You can also delete all locally stored data at any time by removing the Extension from your browser.
B. Retention Summary
- Google Account Email: Not stored by us. Used only at the time of authentication.
- OAuth Tokens: Stored locally until you sign out, revoke access, or uninstall the Extension.
- Spreadsheet Content: Kept in browser memory only while in use; never saved.
- Usage insights: Basic anonymous data about how the extension is used is sent to help us improve it. We don't store any of your personal information or spreadsheet data ourselves.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by updating the date at the top of this policy or through a notice within the Extension updates.
